AutoEntry vs CodeIQ: capture, or capture and code?
Sage’s AutoEntry reads invoices, receipts and statements and publishes them to your accounting software. CodeIQ reads invoices too, then codes the bank statement through an eight-phase pipeline, matches each payment to its invoice and posts the lot once you have reviewed it. Here is how AutoEntry pricing and features compare, from AutoEntry’s own pages.

Where each one is the better fit.
They overlap on reading invoices and part company on the bank. An honest split:
AutoEntry, when…
- Paper is the problemClients send receipts and bills by photo or email, and the job is getting them into the books with the document attached.
- Supplier statements need tickingAutoEntry reads a supplier statement and auto-matches it to the invoices it has captured.
- You work on a wider set of ledgersFreeAgent, KashFlow, ClearBooks, AccountsIQ and others are on its list.
- Purchase orders matterIt syncs captured invoices to open purchase orders.
CodeIQ, when…

- Payments settle several invoicesOne remittance across several invoices, or part payments against one, are matched rather than left for you.
- You want one pass to the ledgerInvoices, bank lines and payments are reviewed together and posted to Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage, Pandle or IQ Books.

AutoEntry alternatives, and where Dext and Hubdoc fit.
AutoEntry, Dext and Hubdoc all capture documents. If you are weighing Dext vs AutoEntry, or looking for Hubdoc alternatives, these are the shapes on offer.
Dext
Receipt and invoice capture with its own plans; one of AutoEntry’s main competitors. Dext vs AutoEntry: both sell capture; AutoEntry prices by the document credit, Dext by plan tier. We keep the details in two guides: what each Dext plan costs and the Dext alternatives.
Hubdoc
Captures bills and receipts by photo, email or upload, extracts the key details and publishes them to Xero or QuickBooks Online with the document attached.
Xero’s own JAX
For Xero users, JAX reads bills and receipts inside Xero. Our CodeIQ vs Xero JAX comparison covers what it does on the bank side.
CodeIQ
The alternative when capture is not enough: invoice reading plus bank coding, payment matching and posting in one review. It can also sit behind a capture tool, coding the bank lines that pay the bills AutoEntry has published.

What is AutoEntry?
AutoEntry is a Sage product for document capture. It reads purchase and sales invoices, receipts, supplier statements and bank statements by OCR and publishes the data to your accounting software. Its integrations page names twelve platforms, including Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent, KashFlow and ClearBooks, and it has a mobile app for snapping receipts.
How much does AutoEntry cost?
AutoEntry pricing is by monthly credit plan, in pounds excluding VAT: Bronze £15.45 for 50 credits, Silver £27.65 for 100, Gold £51.95 for 200, Platinum £119.35 for 500, Diamond £331.50 for 1,500 and Sapphire £518.25 for 2,500. An invoice or receipt costs 1 credit, an invoice with line items 2, a supplier statement 2 and a bank or credit card statement 3 credits a page. Unused credits roll over for 90 days, and the trial includes 25 free credits. These are AutoEntry’s prices as listed on 13 October 2026.
Is AutoEntry free with Sage?
Sage for Accountants plans include access to AutoEntry through Sage Accounting, with an allowance of 25 credits; more can be added in the product. Otherwise AutoEntry plans start at £15.45 a month excluding VAT.
Does AutoEntry use AI?
AutoEntry describes its capture as proprietary OCR, “up to 99% accurate” by its own claim, and says its machine learning suggests VAT codes and supplier accounts and learns from the choices you make. CodeIQ uses OCR for invoices too, then codes bank lines through an eight-phase pipeline with RiQ reviewing the uncertain ones.
Does AutoEntry code bank transactions?
It extracts them. A bank statement costs 3 credits a page, and AutoEntry’s help centre describes “fast-coding” the lines: you pick each line’s contact and category from dropdowns, approve them and export; fast-code is not available when an accounting integration is connected, except QuickBooks Online. CodeIQ codes the lines automatically, sets VAT, matches payments to invoices and posts after your review.
What are the best AutoEntry alternatives?
It depends on the job. For capture alone, Dext and Hubdoc are the usual AutoEntry alternatives, and Xero users have JAX reading bills and receipts inside Xero. If the bank is the slow part, CodeIQ reads invoices and also codes, matches and posts the bank lines. Our guides cover Dext pricing and Dext alternatives.
Which is better, Hubdoc or Dext?
Both capture bills and receipts and publish them to your ledger, so the choice usually comes down to which ledger you use, the volume of documents and the price. Hubdoc publishes to Xero and QuickBooks Online. Our Dext pricing guide sets out what each Dext plan costs.
Can I use AutoEntry and CodeIQ together?
Yes. AutoEntry publishes the bills to your accounting software; CodeIQ reads the open invoices and bills from Xero, QuickBooks Online, Sage, Pandle or IQ Books, codes the bank statement and matches each payment to the bill it settles. Capture stays where it is and the bank stops being coded by hand.
The rest of the suite.
